Elucidation of the involvement of chronic inflammation during the pathogenic processes of various ophthalmic diseases and the creation of treatments

The iPS cell technique is innovative for the induction of pluripotent stem cells from virtually all types of human cells. We have already established techniques for in vitro induction of corneal epithelial cells and endothelial cells. It has been gradually clarified that in many types of eye diseases, a collapse of innate immunity leads to the destruction of tissues and the reduction of their functions through chronic inflammation. In our projects, we aim to establish techniques for the creation of innovative drugs for chronic eye diseases and rare refractory eye diseases using iPS cells. Also, we aim to discover diagnostic biomarkers as well as to establish a treatment regimen for these diseases.
