Adding the social sciences brings a new multi-dimensional approach to medicine. Environmental medicine seeks to understand how the environment can affect the population health.<\/p>\n<p class=\"figure\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"imgC\" src=\"http:\/\/www.med.osaka-u.ac.jp\/eng\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/introduction\/research\/social\/environmental_01.png\" alt=\"\" \/> <!-- <span class=\"caption\">\u56f31<\/span> --><\/p>\n<p>To study this relationship, the lab uses epidemiology and risk benefit tools, and applies its findings to disease control. Epidemiology is the science of past large-scale health data to predict future outcomes. Risk benefit studies look at conventional methods and risk assessments to quantify the benefit of an action. Compared with other countries, this field is underdeveloped in Japan.
