New developments have allowed us to overcome past challenges for a more widespread application of genetic analyses.<\/p>\n<p>These advances point to a brilliant future for medical research and deserve to be pursued. However, it also makes data accessible to a wider range of stakeholders beyond health care providers. This creates a series of human rights issues concerning the potential misuse of genetic data by private parties (i.e., non-state actors). In this talk, I identify and analyse four main threats to human rights by private parties: re-use of genetic data;<\/p>\n<p>involvement of individuals and their relatives in genetic analysis;<\/p>\n<p>discrimination based on genetic data; and equality in databases and genetic groups.
