Until recently, bioethical literature has steered away from considering germ-line modifications of humans, focusing instead on somatic cell genetic engineering. In this paper, I discuss two approaches to genetic engineering, which can broadly be characterized as bioconservative’, to consider the extent to which these frameworks can be extended to inheritable genetic modification, particularly in order to clarify the ethical implications for intergenerational relations. These are Sandel’s critique of a drive to mastery and corresponding formulation of an ethics of the gift and Habermas’s concern that genetic engineering threatens to transform the ethical self-understanding of the species. Following this, I consider Baylis et.al.’s argument for the use of an heuristic of ‘radical rupture’ in discussions of the ethics of inheritable genetic modification. I suggest that while these approaches do help to focus on intergenerational relations, none offer particularly compelling accounts of the morally important features of intergenerational relations. Consequently, the “bio-conservative” critique of gene editing developed so far is of limited value in sorting out the ethical significance of inheritable genome editing techniques such as CRISPR.

※講演は英語で行います。どなたでも参加でき、参加登録は 必要ありません。

【連絡先】

加藤和人（社会医学講座・医の倫理と公共政策学分野)
電話：06-6879-3688
E-mail：info★eth.med.osaka-u.ac.jp[★を＠に変えて下さい]

[3

post-695","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-seminar","ja
["GET
