- Summary of this article：We conducted the first large-scale survey of axial length (AL) in 14,482 Japanese children aged 4-19 using Tohoku Medical Megabank organization. Results showed AL increases with age, slowing down around age 11.7 overall. Notably, boys showed this growth change earlier (age 9.9) than girls (age 15.9). The proportion of children with long AL (≥26mm), indicating suspected myopia, began increasing around age 10. This study provides important baseline data on eye growth patterns in Japanese youth.
- 論文の要約：東北地方の約1万4千人の子ども（4～19歳）を対象に、目の奥行き（眼軸長）の長さを調査しました。眼軸長は年齢とともに伸びますが、11歳後半を境に伸び方が緩やかになることが分かりました。また、近視のリスクとなる「眼軸長が長い」子の割合は10歳頃から増え始めます。日本人の子どもの目の成長変化を明らかにした、初めての大規模な研究成果です。
