Liver cancer immunotherapy, first clarification of the difference in “why it works” (Dr. Nishio and Dr. Kodama) [JITC].

A research group led by Dr. Kei Nishio (currently at JCHO Osaka Hospital) and Professor Naohiro Kodama has used single-cell analysis to elucidate how the body’s immune system responds to two major combination immunotherapies for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (atezolizumab/bevacizumab therapy and durvalumab/ tremelimumab therapy) for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma, elucidating at the single-cell level (single-cell analysis) how the body’s immune system responds and where differences in treatment efficacy (response) arise.

The findings of this study were published in the *Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer* (JITC) on March 30, 2026.
