History and Milestones

The Department of Gastroenterology, Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine was established in June 2005 through the integration and reorganization of the former First, Second, and Third Internal Medicine Groups. After a fresh start under the leadership of Professor Norio Hayashi, Professor Tetsuro Takehara became the second professor in April 2011, and Professor Naohiro Kodama became the third professor in January 2026.

Currently, with more than 60 medical staff and approximately 900 alumni members, together with more than 20 affiliated hospitals, we are striving for medical treatment, research, and education as one of the largest centers of gastroenterology in western Japan.
