A research group led by Dr. Yu Sato (graduate student) and Dr. Naohiro Kodama (professor) has found that pretreatment blood CA9 concentration is a biomarker to predict therapeutic efficacy of atezolizumab/bevacizumab, the standard first-line therapy for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma*3, and also found that CA9 molecules may be involved in treatment resistance. In addition, we found that the CA9 molecule may be involved in the resistance to treatment.
The results of this research were published online in the Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer, the journal of the American Association for Immunotherapy of Cancer, on Thursday, April 9, 2026.
