The roles of Wnt Signaling Pathways Components in Cell Polarity and Migration |
Wnt signaling pathways are involved in many essential cellular and physiological processes in both embryonic and adult organisms. Wnts bind to Frizzled receptors and low density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 5/6 (LRP5/6) co-receptors to activate Wnt-â-catenin (canonical) signalling pathway. In contrast, binding of Wnt to receptor Tyr kinases Ror2 or Ryk, and Frizzled receptors that act independently of LRP5/6, activate â-catenin-independent (non-canonical) pathways. Cell polarity and migration is crucial in many physiological and pathological processes, including development, tissue regeneration, metastasis and angiogenesis. Wnt/planar cell polarity (PCP) pathway, a beta-catenin-independent branch of the Wnt signaling pathway is known as a fundamental mechanism in cell biology that polarizes cells in tissue along a specific tissue axis and also regulate cellular morphogenesis and cell migration during development. My current research work has focused on the crosstalk between Wnt Signaling Pathways components including those of Wnt-â-catenin/â-catenin-independent pathways and their roles in cell polarity and migration.
