Biological Psychiatry Lab

Overview

We are investigating the diagnostic and therapeutic methods of mental illnesses including schizophrenia, autism spectrum disorders and mood disorders. At the same time, we are doing education and dissemination of guideline to spread the high quality medical care of psychiatry.

We are running the research resource database called "human brain phenotype consortium" that has biological samples including genomes, MRI imaging, physiological data including eye movement, and data of cognitive functions. We have collected data from more than 1500 healthy controls and more than 1500 patients of mental illnesses. We are investigating the diagnostic and therapeutic methods of mental illnesses using data from this consortium.

We have conducted a number of collaboration with many researchers of psychiatry from all over Japan and running the Cognitive Genetics Collaborative Research Organization; COCORO. We are also collaborating with researchers of basic research to investigate the molecular mechanism of mental illnesses.

Finally, we are running the project of Effectiveness of GUIdeline for Dissemination and Education in psychiatric treatment; EGUIDE to spread the high quality medical care of psychiatry in Japan.
