Neuropsychology Lab
Neuropsychology is the study of the relationship between the brain and the function of the human mind such as cognition, behavior, emotion, thought, self-consciousness and sociability. Our various studies are based on this neuropsychology. The main target of our research is not only diseases related to psychiatry, but also high order brain dysfunctions related to neurosurgery and emergency medical care center. On the other hand, some of our researches are targeted at healthy subjects. We are also conducting the research by using information and communication technology. Moreover, we are conducting the research of dementia in cooperation with the local community.
In our studies, to examine patients is important. First of all, we listen to patients. Next, we examine neurologically and evaluate high order brain functions of patients. And to understand organic dysfunction, image examination such as MRI and radioisotope imaging is performed according to the purpose. Finally, we examine these results generally and understand the abnormality of the patient. In our Lab, the conference in which we consider the best medical treatment is held every week. From these process, we get a lot of information which play an important role in our study. In addition to this, we get better diagnostic abilities.
Dementia is one of the most important disease in psychiatry. In dementia, our study is about not only Alzheimer's disease, dementia with Lewy bodies and frontotemporal lobar degeneration, but also idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) which is treatable dementia. It is not too much to say that we are the top of the researchers who study iNPH around the world.
One of our pioneer studies is "Ninchisho Chienowa-net" to clarify and propagate effective skills for managing behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia in Japan. And in cooperation with Kawanishi City, Hyogo Prefecture, we are conducting the regional research of dementia.
