AI Medical Healthcare Platform: Bringing AI to medicine and health

 

Osaka University Hospital and the Graduate School of Medicine have commenced the AI Medical Healthcare Platform Project The theme of the 3rd Annual 2016 Osaka University Health-Medicine Cross Innovation Conference was AI and Big Data. Attention was given to developing infrastructure that could utilize the vast amounts of medical information now being accumulated at medical centers worldwide. The conference was in response to the seminars and workshops at Osaka University that realized the need for AI to solve many of the challenges in the medical field. 185 people from various companies and universities attended the May 17 event. Presentations were given by the Japan Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry about the emergence of big data and health care, the School of Engineering Science about AI research at the university, and several departments at the Graduate School of Medicine about their research. Focus was given to the sub-optimal management of imaging data and electronic medical data. With the AI Medical Healthcare Platform Project, Osaka University aims to develop new AI tools to better handle clinical and basic research data. Such AI technology would advance drug discovery and medical therapies along with building bridges to industry.
